ABOUT ME
Through telehealth therapy I help adults, parents and kids name, express, understand, and cope with their experiences and feelings, to foster peace and happiness for themselves and the relationships in their lives.
My name is Shelly Staley and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned my bachelor of science and master of science degrees in Psychology at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California.
As a therapist, I have worked with adults, children, caregivers, and families to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD, help process grief and loss, improve parenting strategies and provide parent support.
My goal as a therapist is to help you improve the quality of your life, find relief from trauma, anxiety and depression, and help you feel and function better in the world.
If you are looking for a therapist for your child, my goal is to help them learn how to cope with their big feelings, adjust to big life changes, or heal from traumatic experiences. I want to work with you to help enrich their lives and strengthen family relationships.
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

WHAT TO EXPECT
INITIAL CONSULTATION
The first step. A FREE 15 minute phone consultation, where you and I will determine if we are a good fit. It is important that you feel comfortable talking with your therapist and that I have the appropriate skillset to help you reach your therapy goals. If we are a good fit, then we will schedule your first appointment and I will create a client account for you on my electronic health records system. All paperwork is completed online using a secure portal link sent to your email, which is also how you will find access to your Telehealth sessions.
THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS
During the initial stages of therapy, I will gather information from you and work with you to set realistic and achievable therapeutic goals. We will periodically check in to discuss your progress. Once you have met your therapy goals, we will conclude our time together. Due to the varying nature and severity of problems and the individuality of each patient, I am unable to predict the length of your therapy or to guarantee a specific outcome or result.
When working with children, I believe it is vital to include the parents throughout the course of therapy. Not only can this method strengthen the relationship between you and your child, it can also highlight the strengths in your parent-child relationship to help your child reach their therapeutic goals.
Research shows that therapy can be very effective. The outcome of your treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this process. During therapy things may feel worse before getting better. When we shine light on the darkness, it can bring pain to the surface. This is all very important to the healing process. I will provide support and do my best to help you through the pain towards a brighter future.
GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE

MY THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
In my practice, I utilize a person-centered approach. I believe that therapists and clients are partners in the therapeutic process. As your therapist I will provide a safe and supportive space for you to share your story at your own pace and work towards achieving your desired goals. I will listen to you intently, highlight your natural strengths, and work with you every step of the way to help you feel more connected to yourself and others.
